The Short Obligatory Prayer by Bahá'u'lláh
The Seals of Bahá'u'lláh with artistic illumination. The Short Obligatory Prayer is one of three obligatory prayers revealed by Bahá'u'lláh. One of the three prayers must be chosen and said each day. The short obligatory prayer is to be said while standing and facing the Point of Adoration—Bahji, near ‘Akko, Israel—where rest the sacred remains of Bahá'u'lláh. The obligatory prayers should be said after ablutions, the washing of the hands and face. The Short Obligatory Prayer has been translated into hundreds of languages. The following selection represents an attempt to share this beautiful prayer with the people of the world.

The Prayer
Salat Saghir -The Short Obligatory Prayer in the original Arabic.

Prayer
“Intone, O My servant, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men. Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb. Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul. Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom. . . .”

I bear witness, O my God, that Thou hast created me to know Thee and to worship Thee. I testify, at this moment, to my powerlessness and to Thy might, to my poverty and to Thy wealth.

Modern evolution
100 Years after Bahá'u'lláh's death, the Bahá'ís celebrated a "holy year", during which the fully authorized translation of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas(MostHoly Book) was published. Coinciding with this was a processofre-examination of intra-Bahá'í administrative and community action, theimplementation of Bahá'í law in greater degrees among non-Iranian Bahá'ís, and the maturation of the Spiritual Assemblies.
Througha series of plans, the Universal House of Justice refocusedthe Bahá'ícommunity on community development, and systematizationofbest-practices, hoping to reduce the "boom and bust" cyclesofcommunity growth encountered in the previous century. TheBahá'ícommunity began to incorporate more active service,socio-economicdevelopment efforts ballooned in number, and local andnationalcommunities became more focused on examining the needs of theirwidernon-Bahá'í communities, to see how the faith could aid them.Theearliest days of the 21st Century saw the Bahá'ís begin to paredowntheir administrative structures, appoint fewer committees, andfocus onvery specific goals outlined by the Universal House of Justice- namelythe creation of small grass-roots study groups, thecreation of more neighbourhood-centric children's classes, andtheincrease in the spiritual character of the community throughsmalldevotional gatherings. The Bahá'ís were encouraged not to seethese"core activities" as simply Bahá'í activities. Rather, these wereto beseen as activities which were open to the wider community, butwould becharacteristic of a Bahá'í's community life.
This periodalso saw the establishment of regional councils, whoform a level ofadministrative action more specific than a NationalSpiritual Assembly, but broader than the civic locality, a boundarywhich almost alwaysdefines the jurisdictions of Local SpiritualAssembly. These seem to beevolving and assuming many growth andconsolidation and educationalfunctions of Local Spiritual Assemblies, allowing these local bodies tomeet the more personal needs of theircommunity members.
Thepresent-day Bahá'í local, national and internationalcommunitiesexperiment with community development methods, and seem tobeattempting to harness the administrative structure tocanalizegrass-roots initiatives, rather than have higher institutionsdictatehighly specific plans and practices.

Online Library of
Baha'i Sacred Writings
Hereisa comprehensive selection of the Writings ofBaha'u'llah,  and'Abdu'l-Baha, the basis for Baha'i life.   Pleaserefer to the pageentitled Central Figures for information about the station of these central  figures of the Baha'i Faith.

Oneofthe most famous Tablets of Baha'u'llah, revealed  around 1282 A.H.(1865A.D.) in honour of Ahmad, a native of the province of Yazd,Iran.    Itis essentially a call to the Babi's of that time torecognize "Him WhomGod  shall make manifest," e.g., Baha'u'llah, aspromised by the Bab inthe  Bayan.
ThispowerfulTablet was revealed in 1871 during a time of  particulartribulation forBaha'u'llah.  Baha'is believe this Tablet is investedwith  great powerand often read it in times of trouble.  Baha'u'llahstates "Should  allthe servants read and ponder this (tablet), thereshall be kindled intheir veins a  fire that shall set aflame theworlds."  Read aloud withfeeling it is certain  to move the heart!
TheHiddenWords are short verses, gems of revelation, each one  completeinitself, full of power and eloquent meaning.  The HiddenWordswere  revealed before Baha'u'llah's public Declaration in twoparts,Part 1 in Arabic, and Part  2 in Persian (Farsi), during Hisperiod ofexile in Iraq before His further banishment  took place.

Revealedonthe 5th day of Naw-Ruz, 1863 just a short  time prior to thepublicDeclaration of Baha'u'llah's Mission.  The tablet is  revealed intwoparts, one in Arabic, the second in Persian (Farsi).  So faronlythe  Arabic Tablet has been rendered into English.  The theme oftheTablet is the story  of the Covenant and men's unfaithfulnesstoit.  It is applicable not only to the  time of Baha'u'llah, but totheministries of 'Abdu'l-Baha, Shoghi Effendi, and the  present day.
TheBookof Certitude -- Baha'u'llah explains the requirements for  seekingtheknowledge of God, and explains many of the abstruse passagesofJudaic,  Christian, and Muslim scripture, especially as it relatestothe "Time of the End."
Acollectionof letters and Tablets addressed to specific rulersand  heads of state, and collectively to all heads of state, informingthem of His statusand  Mission, calling on them to embrace the Causeof God.  Of thosekings addressed, only  Queen Victoria of England gavea favorableresponse.  Of all those rulers only the  Monarchy ofEngland remains inthe world today.
Twomysticalessays written by Baha'u'llah before His public  Declarationon thesubject of the stages a seeker must traverse in their searchforthe  knowledge of God.  The essays are to two differentprominentSufi's (see the Preface  to the Seven Valleys and the FourValleys).

     Tablets ofBaha'u'llah
Thisisa collection of Tablets revealed by Baha'u'llah afterthe  Kitab-i-Aqdas(The Most Holy Book).  Notable Tablets include theTablet ofCarmel,  the Tarazat (Ornaments), the Tajalliyat(Effulgences), theIshraqat (Splendours), the  Words of Paradise, etc.
Talksgivenby 'Abdu'l-Baha during His visit to Paris in 1911 -  1912.  TheMaster,as Baha'is call Him, gave talks on a wide variety ofsubjects  from theobligations towards strangers, to the evolution ofthe spirit, all thewhile  expounding the principles of the Baha'iFaith.
Inwhich'Abdu'l-Baha addresses various subjects, especially of  interesttothose of Christian background, including commentary on theRevelation ofSt.  John, the nature of the soul, etc.  These areanswers in responsesto questions put  to Him at table by LauraClifford Barney over a threeyear period from 1904through  1906.  'Abdu'l-Baha, Himself, reviewedthe Persianmanuscripts, made certain  corrections, and approved themfortranslation into English language publication.
Acollectionof talks given by 'Abdu'l-Baha during His visit tothe  United Statesand Canada  in 1912.  This collection of talks bythe Master is  evenmore extensive than those given in Paris Talks.  Thelanguageused by  'Abdu'l-Baha is possessed of a wonderful clarity andsimplicityno matter how complicated  or abstruse the subjectbecomes.  Many of'Abdu'l-Baha's greatest talks to English  speakingaudiences arecontained in this volume.

或曰:测之以阴阳;
