The Saladin Citadel of Cairo (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين) is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Cairo, Egypt.
The location, part of the Mokattam hill near the center of Cairo, was once famous for its fresh breeze and grand views of the city, and was fortified by the Ayyubid ruler Salah al-Din (Saladin) between 1176 and 1183 AD, to protect it from the Crusaders[1].
It is sometimes referred to as Mohamed Ali Citadel (Arabic: قلعة محمد علي), because it contains the Mosque of Mohamed Ali (or Muhammad Ali Pasha), which was built between 1828 and 1848, perched on the summit of the citadel. [2] This Ottoman mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali's oldest son, who died in 1816.
The citadel stopped being the seat of government when Egypt's ruler, Khedive Ismail, moved to his newly built Abdin Palace in the Ismailiya neighborhood in the 1860s.
There are two other mosques at the Citadel, the 13th/14th c. hypostyle mosque of al-Nasir Muhammad[3] from the early Bahri Mamluk period, and the 16th c. Mosque of Suleyman Pasha, first of the Citadel's Ottoman-style mosques.
The citadel also contains Al-Gawhara palace, the National Military Museum and the Police Museum.

Alexandria (in Greek, Ἀλεξάνδρεια; in Coptic, Ⲣⲁⲕⲟⲧⲉ Rakotə, in Arabic, الإسكندرية Al-Iskandariya, in Egyptian Arabic, اسكندريه Eskendereyya), with a population of 3.5 to 5 million, is the second-largest city in Egypt, and its largest seaport.
Alexandria extends about 20 miles (32 km) along the coast of the Mediterranean sea in north-central Egypt. It is home to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (the new Library of Alexandria), and is an important industrial centre because of its natural gas and oil pipelines from Suez.
In ancient times, Alexandria was one of the most famous cities in the world. It was founded around 331 BC by Macedonian ruler Alexander the Great, and remained Egypt's capital for nearly a thousand years, until the Arabs conquered Egypt in 641 AD and set up a capital at Fustat (later absorbed into Cairo). Alexandria was known for the Lighthouse of Alexandria (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), the Library of Alexandria (the largest library in the ancient world) and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa (one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages). Ongoing maritime archaeology in the harbour of Alexandria (which began in 1994) is revealing details of Alexandria both before the arrival of Alexander, when a city named Rhakotis existed there, and during the Ptolemaic dynasty.

Detail from the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. This is another variation on the classic eight point stars I've been uploading. The Alhambra displays Islamic geometric patterns at their most excellent. This is from the Mexuar hall (from Arabic "shura" or "mashwara" to consult, ie the public room). These days the entrance into the Alhambra is through the Mexuar. Medium: tile.

Don't! They have such colourful and traditionally patterned wedding dresses in the Sub-Coninent. This is detail from a Pakistani bride's wedding outfit. Hand woven traditional patterns on silk. This is a colour for the "second day", the Walima or party thrown by the groom's family. I'm told this can be almost any colour these days. The colour normally reserved for the "first day", the Bharat or actual wedding reception by the bride's side is traditionally red or shades of it. Different cultures employ different colours for different occasions. In the West you get the colour white for weddings. Not so in countries such as Pakistan or India. White is associated with funerals and widowhood! Weddings are very colourful affairs. And special moments of joy and happiness. And spicy food aplenty :-)

Verses from the Holly QURAN

the Translation:

"Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful."

Mezquita, (from Arabic مسجد "Masjid"), Spanish for mosque. the Mezquita in Cordoba is a 10th century Moorish Islamic house of prayer. This site is older than the building, having been host to a Roman pagan temple, the cathedral church of St Vincent of Saragossa built by the Catholic bishops under Visigothic rule, and finally the Mezquita itself. Within is a Renaissance cathedral, built by the Christian conquerors in the early 13th century.

It was the most magnificent of the more than 1,000 mosques in the city, and was at one time the second largest mosque in the Muslim world. It was connected to the Caliph's palace by a raised walk-way, allowing the ruler of Cordoba to visit the mosque without risking assassination. Today the Bishop's palace stands on the site of the Caliph's.

The Palacio de Generalife (Arabic: Jannat al-'Arif - Architect's Garden) was the summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid sultans of Granada.

The palace and gardens were built during the reign of Muhammad III (1302-1309) and redecorated shortly after by Abu I-Walid Isma'il (1313-1324).

A view of the Alhambra from the Patio de la Acequia. The complex consists of the Patio de la Acequia (Court of the Water Channel or Water-Garden Courtyard), which has a long pool framed by flowerbeds, fountains, colonnades and pavilions, and the Jardín de la Sultana (Sultana's Garden or Courtyard of the Cypress). The former is thought to best preserve the style of the medieval garden in Al-Andalus. Originally the palace was linked to the Alhambra by a covered walkway across the ravine that now divides them. The Generalife is one of the oldest surviving Moorish gardens.
